The First Steps Of Marketing

Practically every business on the planet sets out with the primary objective of earning money. This is usually done by manufacturing some form of product, or offering a service, and then charging people money for it.

First of all, it is a very rare case that a company can offer a product or service that is truly unique and cannot be supplied by anybody else. This means that your business will be contesting with other businesses that sell a similar item and you will both be trying to earn money from the same customers, who only want to spend their money once. So how can you increase the chances of them spending money with you?

Marketing is the primary tool used by modern firms to draw prospective customers to do business with them and not with their rivals. It is a very extensive topic that is affected by a great deal of internal and external variables, but when done right it can be the single business practice that could make or break a company. Any time spent on marketing will reap benefits, although spending this time efficiently can yield incredible results.

So where should you start when constructing a marketing strategy for your own company? Well, each situation is different, and every company will have its own set of advantages and weaknesses that must be taken into consideration, but there is a marketing principle that can be applied to almost any company to be used as a marketing framework.

The Marketing Mix

The marketing mix was a phrase that was first coined during the 1950′s and is an expression that is used to describe the fundamental building blocks of any marketing system. It reflects the fact that marketing is not a straightforward, blunt-edged business technique, but rather a delicate balance of different elements of business functions. It got its name since it is similar to the ingredients checklist for a recipe.

The term was later developed to include the idea of “four P’s” that described the critical elements of the marketing mix. The formalisation of these P’s made it very easy for business managers and marketers to quickly relate the elements of marketing to the strengths of their own organisations, and by doing so could very rapidly create a personalised and efficient marketing plan.

Our company already sells a successful collection of environmentally friendly flags however we have used new marketing suggestions to improve our revenue figures.

Product

Although every element of the marketing mix is a requirement, the “product” element mentioned as one of the four P’s is possibly the most critical of all. It describes the physical product or intangible service that your business will be offering, and at the end of the day it is the reason that buyers are going to spend money with you. If this element is not correctly managed then your organisation will find it hard to make it through.

Many people do not think that marketing has any role to play when it comes to the physical product that your company is selling. In fact, the typical train of thought very often bears the precise opposite sentiment. Surely it should be the opposite way around – your manufacturing department creates a product for sale and then it is the task of the marketing department to discover ways to sell it, right? This is not necessarily the case.

Take the computer software market as an example. There are many well-known brands of both operating system as well as software application products on the market already, and because the market is fairly well saturated it would be very tough (and expensive) to “take on the big boys”. So how could the principles of the marketing mix assist in this circumstance?

Rather than creating an operating system and then trying to craft a marketing strategy to rival the likes of Microsoft or Apple, it would be more effective to look at what sorts of product are sought after in the current marketplace, and how viable it would be to produce and sell them.

Once your products have been designed and created it is still a vital skill to be able to objectively evaluate your own products to recognise the reasons that a customer would buy your product rather than a competitors’.

A different form of this part of the marketing mix is known as product variation and is typically used to either extend the lifecycle of a product currently in the market, or to make your new product attractive to as many customers as possible.

The motor industry uses this approach very effectively by offering different engines, trim packages and interior options with the cars that they offer. They use the marketing mix to good effect to sell their own products in an incredibly competitive marketplace. Although these companies may have substantial marketing budgets, the same principles can be applied to all businesses.

We do not have a defined marketing division within our company though several of our own managers have been able to adopt marketing as part of their work function.

Price

Another key factor in the marketing mix concerns the price of your products or services. This isn’t a simple case of performing market research to figure out the highest price that your customers would spend (although that can be a useful tool to use), but rather using the price of your products as a strategic tool designed to achieve any specific goals your business has. The potential advantages of an effective pricing plan are surprisingly large!

Although it may seem obvious, it’s still worth pointing out that price has always been, and probably always will be, one of the crucial factors that customers take into account when they are making a purchase. It is also worth noting that customers don’t always consider the lowest price to be the best price.
There are many questions that you need to ask yourself when devising a good pricing strategy, key among which are the price sensitivity of your customers, what your rivals are doing and how can pricing maximise your own profits. From a strategy point of view however, pricing can be covered by two primary principals; price skimming and also penetration pricing.

Price skimming

The principal idea behind price skimming is to make as much cash as possible from the sector of the market which is price-insensitive and will be willing to spend a large amount of money to receive a product or service early on. Not only can this technique deliver great financial benefits, but it can also advertise an exclusive and high quality image of your product.

This pricing strategy is very often used in the consumer electronics industry where customers will often eagerly await the launch of a new mobile phone or computer games console. Makers could set almost any price they wanted to and there would still be a loyal core of customers that would pay it.

Penetration pricing

Penetration pricing is at the opposite end of the pricing spectrum, and is geared towards gaining a large market share at a short-term cost so that financial benefits can be made long into the future. It can be a high risk strategy, but when used correctly it can create revenue streams for many years to come.

Yet another thing to bear in mind is that “price” is the only part of the marketing mix that will generate income for a business. The other members of the four P’s will all cost money to produce or carry out. So it is even more essential to get your pricing strategy right.

Following using on-line tools to compare keyword lookup frequency we identified party sashes to direct our campaign for on-line promotion as well as off-line marketing materials.

Place

Place is the portion of the marketing mix that is often disregarded by companies, but it is still an important part of selling your product effectively. In short, it describes the way in which you deliver your product to your consumer, and subsequently how you receive money from them. It can be a great marketing approach when used appropriately.

The most typical implications of place-based marketing are the physical locations in which your goods are sold. For the majority of consumer products, this includes the distribution infrastructure between your production plants and shops and other outlets around the country. Since distribution of a physical product costs money it is crucial to determine your own priorities and adapt your distribution network appropriately. This is the principal application of this element of the marketing mix.

With the increasing use of the Internet by your potential customers, marketing techniques have had to take into account how they use the Internet to help deliver their products. By using the Internet as a place of contact (or even as a whole distribution route in download-based markets such as MP3s) firms are now able to reach out to a huge pool of potential customers.

Promotion

When you mention the word “marketing”, most people instantly think of the promotional aspect of the marketing mix, although as we have seen, this is only one branch of a more comprehensive system. Promotion can be employed on a very individual basis or as a mass communication tool, and whilst it can be an expensive undertaking it is often an essential one.

Advertising is one of the most common forms of promotion. Typically it would be done by posting on billboards, producing short clips for TV and radio or by physically handing out flyers or leaflets to potential buyers. With the coming of the information age we have witnessed a great increase in promotion via e-mail and the Internet, or just as targeted advertising material posted through your front door. The potential for individualised advertising has never been so good.

Another significant part of promotion involves branding, which will not necessarily yield more sales directly, but goes back to one of the initial purposes of marketing; getting customers to pick your product over those of your rivals. When all other pieces of the marketing mix are equal it could be branding that swings a customer’s choice.

Putting it into Practice

As previously mentioned each business is unique and will have different marketing needs. By using a balance of the four P’s reviewed above you can take a good view of your own marketing plan.

After school activity for the hyperactive child

ADHD refers to attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder. Most children who
suffer from this disorder suffer from attention problems as well as hyperactivity. Parents of such children are well aware that inattention and hyperactivity continue throughout the day. Keeping such children busy after school hours can be as difficult as keeping them safe during the school day.

The first step while choosing the right after school activity for your child is to understand how ADHD affects him. Is your child interested in sports? Is he put off by the fierce competitiveness, or does he find it hard to get along with teammates? Does your child vocalize his feelings, or is communication a problem?

For a child suffering from ADHD, physical exercise is always beneficial. Exercise takes up the extra energy and helps to stimulate the brain. Team activities teach social skills and discipline. But, if your child shies away from team sports, you may want to look at activities like dancing, cycling, swimming or gymnastics.

If your child shows aversion on how to build muscles and shows inclination towards the fine arts, you may need to look at some other options. Acting classes are a wonderful form of creative exercise. It also provides the child with ample opportunity to develop his social skills. Music, art or dance can  help the child to keep himself busy and entertained, so you might want to buy him a kids microphone.

In case the child is not interested in any of the above, you may want him to join a Boy Scouts club or other community oriented clubs that take up social work. Cleaning a park, putting on a show, helping out in an old age home are various activities that may pique your child’s interest.

Whatever form of activity you choose, make sure that you monitor your child’s progress periodically. If you feel that there is no progress, you may need to change the activity. Anything that increases your child’s self-esteem is good. You may enlist the help of the coach or teacher to assess your child’s development.

There are certain activities that are detrimental to a child like wanting to ride 150cc scooters. Computer and video games are a definite NO. Since these games need no interaction, children will feel all the more isolated. These children also find it difficult to distinguish between the good and the bad messages. They may therefore show an inclination to stick to messages that are not needed. Games that need the child to sit and wait for his turn patiently tax his patience and will not be a success.

Although you would want these children to be as near to normal as possible, understanding their needs and limits will help you select the right after school activity – one that is fulfilling, tiring as well as challenging.

Jeffrey Epstein and Old School Sports

I’m Jeffrey Epstein and I’ll admit i love old school sports and venues.  Give me the Forum over Staples Center any day.  Of course, new venues could be a fantastic fan experience especially getting your food orders in just a minute or maybe getting your turns immediately in the restrooms.  However, my experience as a fan tells me that new arenas aren’t built to be occupied by sports spectators.   Many Lakers games held in Staples Center I have attended to yet learned great seats are situated like 13 rows from the court.  I might likewise been on the moon.  The setting of old arenas seats are arranged in a vertical manner while new arenas are set horizontally explaining how 13 rows back is much like watching a group of mimes running all over the floor.  No sounds of sneakers, no sounds of ref’s whistles, and no sounds of trash talking ever reach you.  Why any fan may wish to see a game live at a venue escapes me.  Watching it on the TV is way much better than the latter.

The influence with games watched on TV hurts the live venue experience to the core.  Watching at home it seems like non-stop action.  I would consider watching live at venues being a stop and start experience.  The television time outs just don’t stop, interrupting the flow of the game and damping the spectator experience.

So when Jeffrey Epstein sees an old school beat down like the recent Boston Celtics thrashing (for the second time in as numerous meetings) of the Miami Heat, he cannot help but love what he sees.  A sport I’ve always love and cheered on every flash was that of the Celtic veterans when they didn’t just out muscled and out hustled but outworked the star loaded Heat.    It turned out to be an awesome watch especially on the TNT coverage in which the game was just amazing, not to mention the part after the game when Charles Barkley and Kevin McHale performed some old school beat down techniques of fouling hard and showing what must be done to become a big guy in NBA.  It’s a game Lebron or Bosh or Wade never learned how to play yet somehow know what real sports is.

When Jeffrey Epstein sees old school legend Brett Favre bring his team from behind to victory in a must win game, playing on a broken ankle, a split chin and showing everyone of his 41 years, I’ve make a shout out to the man.  Issues around with the man could be annoying however it all goes down to his competitive spirit and perseverance in winning the game.

Finally, this column wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging the passing of Maurice Lucas, someone who defined the ‘enforcer’ role for the NBA for a decade.  Maurice secured everyone of his teammates that opposing teams always wind up paying the price for any shots they took.  Rest in peace.

My name is Jeffrey Epstein and my passion is old school sports. Always and for the rest of my life.

Elizabeth Find MD: Diagnosis Mystery Review

In this hidden object game, Elizabeth Find (yes a bit corny even for a hidden object game) gets sick patients that she must cure. With the help of other hospital staff, she searches for clues to why the patient is sick. To solve each case, Dr. Elizabeth Find must do your classic hidden object search. Once Dr. Find has uncovered all the clues, analyzed the data, and discovered what is wrong, the patient recovers from the mysterious illness.

Elizabeth Find MD: Diagnosis Mystery uses classic techniques of searching for items on a list. The items do disappear once found, clearing up the screen to find other items.

during the game you get to do mini-games The game does give you the option of skipping the games if you so choose. The mini-games involve some medical testing. When you arrive at a mini-game screen, there is a brief explanation of the test you are performing and how to perform the test. Some of them, like blood testing, are simple enough. However, I found the MRI testing was very difficult. An organ lights up and you have to choose which of the eight places to inject dye in a very limited amount of time. Mess up three times and you start over. I ended up skipping it because I stunk at finding the injection site. You will have to try to see how you like it. You should get to it in the free trial period as it is the first mini-game you play.

Overall, Elizabeth Find MD: Diagnosis Mystery delivers what you would expect from a medical hidden object game. The game uses medical tools, like a stethoscope, to find some of the hidden items. Unlike some games, the tools are already in your medical bag, so no need to search for the tools. Items needing the medical tools are found in red. I liked this particular feature. I find the red lets me know right off to get into the medical bag. Otherwise, I might have been looking around for a stomach pump instead of doing a stomach pump. The story line has just enough medical terminology for those of us familiar with medicine but not so much that an average person would not understand.

You can find Elizabeth Find MD: Diagnosis Mystery and many other hidden object games at Marco Polo Games.

Footwear In Expert Sports: The Nba Does not Permit Athletic Propulsion Labs Shoes

Right after a number of weeks of testing, the National basketball association has officially banned Athletic Propulsion Labs’s Concept 1 sneaker. The Principle one makes use of a spring-loaded program to allegedly strengthen a player’s vertical bounce by a couple of (but substantial) inches–a benefit that, accurate or not, just does not fly together with the Nba.

Athletic Propulsion Labs was set up by two 23-year-old twins, Ryan and Adam Goldston, which is just shocking till you learn that the Goldston twins are the sons of Mark Goldston. Mark is the creator of all manner of sneaker gimmickry, which includes the lights in L.A. Gear footwear, Hexalite, and most famously, the Reebok Pump. So this type of podiatric silliness is in Athletic Propulsion Labs’s blood.

The Sneakers in question, the Concept 1, has a type of challenging elastic rubber bit that runs from the heel to the forefoot, connecting using the “Load ‘N Launch” device at the forefoot. The “Load ‘N Launch” is basically a spring in between two pieces of plastic which theoretically makes use of the energy transferred in the heel to boost one’s vertical jump.

Sports activities Illustrated tested the Concept 1 back in September, and discovered that they do really work–at least, they kind of operate, sometimes. A two-footed bounce appears to be the only strategy to feel any distinction, and even then, only some testers noticed an improvement. But it did, when used inside a particular way, by a specific player, occasionally result in an additional inch or 3 of air. Whether or not that is worth the $300 asking price (or the apparent moderate discomfort some testers noticed) is form of arguable, but hey, a minimum of they’re not total snake oil.

That the womens sneakers perform even a little bit is adequate to get the Nba to ban them. The Nba stated in a very statement that “Under league rules, players may possibly not put on any shoe throughout a game that creates an undue competitive advantage.” But Athletic Propulsion Labs couldn’t be far more thrilled: They’ve plastered “Banned by the NBA” over their whole internet site, creating it their rallying cry. That’s bound to be a disappointment to your 30% of the NBA’s freshman class that APL claims ordered the footwear, but don’t be surprised to see them popping up in pickup games across the country instead.

Metal Pistol Guide

Metal airsoft pistols are designed so that they are practically identical to real guns, which can be found in the weight, balance and attention to detail. There are many different brands who manufacture these types of pistols, with some being more renowned than others. Each type of metal pistols are put to use in a number of various conditions. They can be used for airsoft games, training purposes, or for target practice and plinking. Now and again, they are even bought solely as a collector’s item, due to their close resemblance to real guns.

Metal airsoft pistols that have gas blowback are designed so that the slide of the gun kicks backwards. This will happen each time the gun is fired, thus being able to realistically simulate the reactions of a real gun. One such example is the KJW Full Metal Semi Automatic M9 Beretta Gas Blowback Pistol. This pistol is extremely robust and can easily compete with many of the other types of airsoft guns on the market. Its automated design makes it fast and easy to fire at short notice, making it perfect for those kinds of airsoft games where sudden ambushes could occur anytime One disadvantage of utilizing the gas powered pistol is that after continuously firing it over a short period of time, the gas will freeze, causing the gun to have a reduced performance. This is only temporary until the gun warms up again, which does not take long. In the case of gas powered non-blowback airsoft pistols, the slide on the gun does not produce the kick back effect. Usually, this type of gun will utilize what is known as green gas in order to fire the projectile out of the pistol. In general, most of these types of gas powered pistols will be semiautomatic, but you can also find the more expensive and high models, which will have full automatic firing modes. The kinds of velocities that these type of air pistols produce will be somewhere between 300 to 400 FPS.

Spring metal airsoft pistols are considered to be the more reliable choice of weapon. This is because unlike gas powered pistols, there is no freezing that takes place, and when compared to electric pistols, there is no problem if a spring powered pistol becomes wet. These kinds of pistols are very sturdy and will also provide a very realistic kick when fired. However, before you can shoot the pistol, you need to cock it before every shot. While some may see this as an inconvenience, there are many who actually enjoy the feeling of pulling back the slide before each shot is fired. The sound that is associated with the cocking of the gun can also provide a feeling of intimidation when playing recreational types of airsoft games. There are many metal airsoft pistols that can be bought at very reasonable prices. It’s crucial to not overlook that these weapons aren’t toys. They’ll bring about hurt or personal injury if they’re misused.

Play Golf Online

Can an online golf game do anything for you when you desperately feel like playing but cannot possibly get out onto a course because of home, work, or logistical pressures? I don’t know what the exact motivation is, but there are a lot of people who Play Golf Online for one reason or another. It looks like the typical Internet golf gamer is a yuppie-aged person, either on a computer, or a game console like the Playstation, XBOX or the Wii. These games feature a replica of a famous, real golf course with the sand traps and the small water ponds placed at the exact places. The majority of these games are browser-based and free to play. Online golf is a skill kind of game where you have to select the right club, set the correct angle, and then apply the right amount of force using either the mouse or the keyboard, to hit the ball at the target.

Technologically speaking, the majority of these games are browser-based, in the sense that you do not have to install software on your computer. All you have to do is open the game site and install a small plug-in and play the game. An online golf game is made using Java or Shockwave technology, and chances are that you already have both these plug-ins installed on your system. The upside of these technologies is that they allow the game to be “cached” on your computer and thus place no load on the server hosting the game. These games can range from the very basic types to the highly sophisticated ones with complex graphics; but no matter what, they are fun and great time-killers. Of course, there are CD/DVDs available for both PCs and Video Consoles too, but browser games rule the roost.

There are many varieties of online golf games: (i) Single-player game, which an Internet surfer, feeling bored at work or at home, normally plays to kill time. (ii) Multiplayer game, where the player has other Internet players pitted against him. (iii) Some golf games may feature less than the required 18 holes, a feature which golf purists may criticize. But then these games are ideal if you do not have too much time to spare. (iv) There are many golf-variant games such as mini golf games; these are quite popular too. (vi) Many gaming websites add a gambling twist to golf games by making an Internet user pay a fee to play the game, and then if he logs in a good score and is ranked high, he stands to win a prize which is most likely to be cash. These games are big time hookers too.

Playing an online golf game can be an entertaining way to fill the gap when you just cannot get out and play a round of the real thing. And since there are a lot of choices of games to play, if one doesn’t satisfy you can always just browse on over to the next virtual golf game and see what it has to offer.

Undiscovered World: The Incan Sun Game Review

What is life if it is not a big adventure? In Undiscovered World: The Incan Sun, our hero has crashed his plane on a not so remote area once inhabited by the Incans. The first thing our hero does is find objects scattered about his plane in true hidden object game style. It is not long before the hero finds there is more to the area than he expected.

True to hidden object style, the player is given a list of items to find. You discover the items simply by clicking on them. Once the item is found, the object is removed from the list. Some items are pretty easy to spot while others can blend in quite well.Objects aren’t always what you would expect to see either. For example: the list said phone. I was not thinking about this being set in an earlier era so I was looking for a typical phone. Finally, after finding everything else on the list, I found the phone. The phone was the type you would see on the Andy Griffith Show. You know the type I am talking about. You grab the earpiece and talk into a mouthpiece still attached to the wall. Then you ask an operator to call someone.

Occasionally, the size of the objects will throw you for a loop too. When looking for a grasshopper, I was looking for small things around the cabin of the plane. I was definitely surprised when the grasshopper was about 10 times larger than I expected. The last thing that made the game more difficult was the names. I don’t know about you but it is not often I see the word Anubis. Now, I have watched enough tomb raiding and Egyptian movies to know this will probably be a dog-like statue, but it was still unusual.

Each section has the list of objects to find but there is more. Along with the given list, you must find the two hidden statues. The statues allow you uncover the secret of the undiscovered world. While it is not required, there are coins for you to collect too. The coins give you hints on finding the objects that you just can’t find.At the end of a level, there is a mini-puzzle. The puzzle is not difficult at all. Matter of fact, the puzzle pieces are lined on the board. So putting the puzzle together doesn’t provide much of a challenge. It is more of a device to move the story along.

The game has a timer that counts up, not down, like most hidden object games. For maximum points, click accurately, click fast, and click multiple items in a row. This is the only way you will be considered an expert at a level. It will take practice because matching the names to the items is not as easy as it sounds. Clicking too many wrong items will not only destroy your accuracy but will also get you a time penalty.

Undiscoverd World: The Incan Sun can be found at MarcoPoloGames. There you can try games out before you buy them.

The Fundamentals Of Marketing

Practically every company on the planet sets out with the primary objective of earning money. This is generally done by producing some form of product, or offering a service, and then charging customers money for it.

Firstly, it is a very rare case that a business can offer a product or service that is genuinely unique and cannot be supplied by anybody else. This means that your enterprise will be competing with other businesses that sell a similar product and you will both be trying to earn money from the same customers, who only want to spend their money once.

Marketing is the primary tool used by modern firms to draw potential customers to do business with them and not with their rivals. It is a very broad topic that is influenced by a great deal of internal and external factors, but when done right it can be the single business practice that can make or break a corporation. Any time spent on marketing will reap rewards, although spending this time correctly can yield extraordinary results.

So where should you begin when creating a marketing strategy for your own business? Well, every situation is different, and every industry will have its own set of strengths and weaknesses that must be taken into consideration, but there is a marketing rule that can be applied to almost any company to be used as a marketing framework. It is called the “Marketing Mix”.

The Marketing Mix

The marketing mix was a term that was first coined in the 1950′s and is a phrase that is used to describe the fundamental building blocks of any marketing system. It demonstrates the fact that marketing is not a straightforward, blunt-edged business tool, but rather a delicate balance of different elements of business operations.

The term was later developed to include the idea of “four P’s” that described the critical elements of the marketing mix. The formalisation of these P’s made it very easy for company managers and marketers to swiftly relate the elements of marketing to the strengths of their own organisations, and by doing so could very rapidly form a personalised and efficient marketing system.

Our business already sells a profitable range of car wheelchair carrier products yet we have used new marketing ideas to improve our sales figures.

Product

Whilst every aspect of the marketing mix is a requirement, the “product” element mentioned as one of the four P’s is perhaps the most critical of all. It describes the physical product or intangible service that your company will be selling, and at the end of the day it is the reason that customers are going to spend money with you. If this part is not adequately managed then your organisation will find it hard to survive.

Several people don’t think that marketing has any role to play when it comes to the actual product that your business is selling. In fact, the typical train of thought very often bears the precise opposite sentiment. Surely it should be the other way around – your production department creates a product for sale and then it is the job of the marketing department to discover ways to sell it, right?

Consider the computer software market as an example. There are many established brands of both operating system and software application products on the marketplace already, and since the market is relatively well saturated it would be incredibly tough (and expensive) to “take on the big boys”.

Rather than creating an operating system and then trying to craft a marketing strategy to take on the likes of Microsoft and Apple, it would be more effective to look at what types of product are sought after in the current marketplace, and how feasible it would be to produce and sell them. By being aware of the marketing mix early on in your product development cycle you can prevent business dead-ends at a later stage.

Once your goods have been fashioned and created it is still a critical skill to be able to objectively evaluate your own products to recognise the reasons why a customer would buy your product rather than a competitors’. The technique is called product differentiation and forms one of the fundamental skills of the product part of the marketing mix pie.

Another form of this part of the marketing mix is known as product variation and is typically used to either prolong the lifecycle of a product currently in the market, or to make your brand new product attractive to as many consumers as possible. Once again, this technique can be applied at all stages of product development.

The motor industry uses this approach very effectively by offering various engines, trim packages and interior options with the cars that they sell. They use the marketing mix to good effect to sell their own goods in an incredibly competitive marketplace. Although these companies may have huge marketing budgets, the same principles can be applied to all businesses.

We do not have a defined promotion team within our xbox hard drive price operation although several of our own managers have been able to take up marketing as part of their job role.

Price

Another key factor in the marketing mix relates to the price of your products or services. This isn’t a simple case of performing market research to figure out the highest price that your customers would spend (although that can be a useful tool to use), but rather making use of the price of your products as a strategic weapon designed to achieve any particular targets your business has.

Whilst it may seem obvious, it’s still worth noting that price has always been, and likely always will be, one of the key factors that customers take into account when they are making a purchase. It is also worth noting that customers do not constantly consider the cheapest price to be the best price.

There are many questions that you need to ask yourself while devising a good pricing strategy, key among which are the price sensitivity of your customers, what your competitors are doing and how can pricing boost your own profits. From a strategy point of view though, pricing can be covered by two primary principals; price skimming and penetration pricing. These are outlined below.

Price skimming

The main idea driving price skimming is to make as much cash as possible from the segment of the market which is price-insensitive and will be prepared to spend a large amount of money to receive a product or service early on. Not only can this approach deliver great financial benefits, but it can also promote an exclusive and high quality image of your item.

This pricing strategy is frequently used in the consumer electronics industry where customers will often eagerly await the release of a new mobile phone or computer games console. Manufacturers could set nearly any price they wanted to and there would still be a loyal base of customers that would pay it. By using this method as part of a pre-ordering strategy, a company can help to smooth its own money flow.

Penetration pricing

Penetration pricing is at the other end of the pricing spectrum, and is tailored towards gaining a large market share at a short-term cost so that financial rewards can be earned long into the future. It can be a risky strategy, but when used correctly it can setup revenue streams for many years to come.

Another thing to keep in mind is that “price” is the only part of the marketing mix that will generate revenue for a business. The other members of the four P’s will all cost money to create or undertake.

When our organization was doing market research before a brand new product launch I identified get a boyfriend was the key phrase that promoted the best “value for money” impression.

Place

Place is the component of the marketing mix that is often overlooked by companies, but it is still an important part of selling your product successfully. In short, it describes the method in which you provide your product to your customer, and consequently how you receive money from them.

The most common implications of place-based marketing are the physical locations in which your products are sold. For the majority of consumer products, this involves the distribution network between your production plants and shops or other outlets around the world. Since distribution of a physical product costs money it is important to determine your own priorities and alter your distribution network accordingly.

With the increasing use of the Internet by your potential customers, marketing methods have had to consider how they use the Internet to help distribute their products. By using the Internet as a point of contact (or even as a whole distribution channel in download-based markets such as MP3s) firms are now able to reach out to a huge pool of potential customers. Effective positioning of your product or service can therefore deliver impressive economic results.

Promotion

When you mention the word “marketing”, most people immediately think of the promotional aspect of the marketing mix, although as we have seen, this is only one branch of a more complete system. Promotion can be employed on a very individual basis or as a mass communication instrument, and whilst it may be an expensive undertaking it is often an essential one.

Advertising is one of the most typical forms of promotion. Typically it would be done by posting on billboards, creating short clips for TV and radio or by physically handing out flyers or leaflets to potential buyers. With the arrival of the information age we have seen a great increase in promotion via e-mail and the Internet, or just as targeted advertising material posted through your front door.

Another important part of promotion involves branding, which may not necessarily yield more sales directly, but relates back to one of the initial functions of marketing; getting customers to choose your product over those of your competitors. When all other pieces of the marketing mix are equal it could be branding that swings a customer’s choice.

Putting it into Practice

As previously mentioned each business is unique and will have different marketing needs. By using a balance of the four P’s discussed above you can take an effective view of your own marketing plan.
